Welcome to the Ugandan Widow’s Collective

17 09 2008

Welcome to the online home of the Ugandan Widow’s Collective.  Our hope is to connect hand made jewelery made by a Widow’s Collective in northern Uganda to markets around the world.

The jewelery we sell on behalf of the group is traded fairly and made using recycled material.  We also use any excess funds from the sale of the jewelery to support ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts in northern Uganda.

This small income generation activity by the Widow’s Collective enables group members to provide food for their families and send their children to school.

“Everyone of these women have orphans, others are widows who husband died, while others are sick people who are among the category of being vulnerable too.  This question of war and HIV/AIDS have increased vulnerable because when war comes people have to go the camps and now in the camp the disease killed a number of people, husbands, wives children, when war killed mainly husbands and left so many widows mainly with orphans.

Really we need the bead to supplement our income so that we also can be people who can afford to buy things that are necessary for human beings.”
